Square Enix delivered a monumental double-header announcement for the Kingdom Hearts franchise, mapping out both the future of the series and a massive platform expansion for its celebrated history. Headlining the showcase, the publisher officially confirmed that the highly anticipated mainline sequel, Kingdom Hearts IV, will launch as a day-one multiplatform release. Breaking the franchise’s traditional staggered release patterns, the next-gen action-RPG will land simultaneously on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC via Steam, the Epic Games Store, and the Microsoft Store, alongside a native day-and-date release for the Nintendo Switch 2.
Kingdom Hearts IV kicks off a brand-new narrative chapter for series protagonist Sora. The plot drops the Keyblade wielder into Quadratum, a mysterious, sprawling city heavily distinct from the whimsical locations of past entries. While navigating this realistic urban landscape, Sora will encounter an array of mysterious new figures while awakening latent supernatural abilities. Square Enix teased that the journey will eventually expand beyond Quadratum, sending Sora traveling across diverse new worlds to forge unexpected alliances and pave the way for the series’ future.
To bridge the gap ahead of the sequel, Square Enix also unveiled the Kingdom Hearts Collection [I~III], a massive archival bundle bringing the entire foundational “Dark Seeker Saga” to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and the Nintendo Switch 2 on October 8, 2026. Transitioning away from the controversial cloud-streaming versions utilized on legacy Switch hardware, this collection delivers native hardware compilation releases.
The massive package bundles Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 + 2.5 ReMIX (featuring texture-updated editions of the original game, Re:Chain of Memories, Kingdom Hearts II, and Birth by Sleep), Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue, and Kingdom Hearts III packaged natively with its Re Mind narrative expansion. For players looking to fill specific gaps in their libraries, all three compilations will be available for individual digital purchase alongside the primary collection package.
The October collection rollout marks the franchise’s official debut on the Microsoft Store for PC users. Furthermore, Square Enix announced that purchasing Kingdom Hearts III or the complete Integrum Masterpiece bundle on these new hardware platforms will reward players with a platform-exclusive Keyblade dubbed “Dead of Night.” Digital pre-orders for the collection are scheduled to go live on respective digital storefronts today, accompanied by an immediate digital shadow-drop of a standalone Kingdom Hearts III + Re Mind gameplay demo, available to download via the Nintendo eShop for Switch 2.
