Capcom has officially announced that Onimusha: Way of the Sword will receive a simultaneous launch day port for the Nintendo Switch 2. The title is scheduled to release on September 25, 2026, joining the previously confirmed versions for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam, the Epic Games Store, and the Microsoft Store. Digital and physical pre-orders are officially live across all respective storefronts starting today.

Serving as the first brand-new mainline entry in the historic franchise in over two decades, the dark fantasy narrative shifts away from past protagonists to follow a young Miyamoto Musashi. Set during a fractured Edo period, players must guide the iconic legendary samurai through a heavily besieged Kyoto that has been completely overrun by demonic, monstrous forces known as the Genma. Armed with the mystical Oni Gauntlet, Musashi must tap into supernatural, unearthly powers to slice through underworld creatures in an intense, narrative-driven campaign.
The newly announced Nintendo Switch 2 version features specialized hardware integration designed around the console’s unique input layout. Capcom revealed that the game will fully support exclusive, immersive motion controls utilizing the new Joy-Con 2 controllers. This optional control scheme allows players to intuitively physically mimic the game’s high-speed, technical katana combat, while also using gyro-assisted aiming to pinpoint enemy weak spots when firing the samurai’s traditional longbow.
