Atlus has officially announced that its critically acclaimed fantasy RPG, Metaphor: ReFantazio, is making its way to the Nintendo Switch 2 on November 12, 2026. This upcoming release expands the reach of the high-profile title, which originally debuted on October 11, 2024, across PlayStation 4 & 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. For physical collectors, Atlus confirmed that the game will ship on a physical game-key card and will feature a limited-time, launch-exclusive SteelBook Edition at retail.

Crafted by the core creative team behind Persona 3, Persona 4, and Persona 5, Metaphor: ReFantazio transports players to a distinct medieval fantasy realm plagued by political unrest and systemic anxiety. The narrative follows a young protagonist and his loyal fairy companion, Gallica, as they enter a high-stakes Royal Tournament to compete for the vacant throne and lift a deadly curse from the kingdom’s lost prince. A central mechanical pillar of the journey is the awakening of Archetypes – dormant, magical powers within the characters’ hearts that function as a versatile, customizable job system, allowing players to channel and combine a vast array of distinct combat classes.
The core gameplay loop beautifully adapts the studio’s celebrated calendar-based progression structure, forcing players to manage their time strictly between daytime and nighttime phases. During the day, players brave treacherous dungeons, clear side quests, and hunt for forgotten relics.
Once night falls, the focus shifts to deepening social relationships, building character bonds, and cultivating vital royal virtues. Traversal across the expansive kingdom is conducted via a massive, piloting landship known as a Gauntlet Runner. Combat seamlessly bridges real-time action and traditional turn-based strategy, letting players swiftly eliminate weaker enemies on the field before transitioning into tactical, command-based battles for tougher adversaries.
