Final Fantasy X | X-2 HD Remaster Heading to Switch 2 This July With Brand-New Performance Enhancements

Square Enix has officially announced that Final Fantasy X | X-2 HD Remaster is making the leap to current-generation hardware with an optimized port for the Nintendo Switch 2. The acclaimed role-playing compilation is scheduled to launch digitally via the Nintendo eShop on July 23, 2026, perfectly timed to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the original title’s debut in Japan.

The dual-game package preserves over 100 hours of combined story content across two monumental eras of the franchise’s history. Final Fantasy X chronicles the classic journey of Tidus, a star Blitzball athlete who is suddenly displaced from his technologically advanced home and paired with Yuna, a determined young summoner embarking on a hazardous pilgrimage to break a continuous cycle of global destruction caused by a colossal aquatic entity known as Sin.

Its direct sequel, Final Fantasy X-2, shifts the tone to focus on a high-energy adventure set two years into the peaceful era of the Eternal Calm. Following a mysterious holographic recording, Yuna transforms into a specialized Sphere Hunter, exploring Spira alongside her loyal teammates Rikku and Paine to solve an ancient mystery.

The upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 edition introduces native structural overhauls that elevate the technical framework of the 2013 remaster project. Square Enix has completely remade the character models, enemy monsters, and structural environments in native high-definition, providing a substantial resolution boost designed to leverage the console’s upgraded processing architecture.

Beyond the overhauled visual presentation and the inclusion of a fully rearranged orchestral audio soundtrack, the package integrates the complete mechanical suite from the coveted International Version expansions. To accommodate modern playstyles, the port adds highly requested quality-of-life toggles, including an instantaneous fast-forward high-speed mode, an option to completely disable random enemy encounters, and additional gameplay modifiers to streamline exploration and grinding loops.
