The city-building strategy game Nova Roma will now launch for PC via Steam on March 26, 2026, following a decision by developer Lion Shield and publisher Hooded Horse to delay the release in response to extensive demo feedback. The team confirmed the new date while outlining ongoing improvements being made ahead of launch.

Following strong engagement with the demo, the developers opted to extend development to further refine systems and integrate player feedback. Recent demo updates include broad balance tuning, numerous fixes, and the addition of dynamic environmental elements such as rain, flooding, and droughts. The demo is now being treated as a kind of proto–early access experience, with continued updates planned as development progresses.
Set during the decline of the Roman Empire, Nova Roma places players in charge of a fledgling settlement founded by citizens seeking to preserve the empire’s fading ideals. Starting from a modest village, players must manage complex supply chains, enact laws, and carefully balance urban expansion with environmental and divine consequences. Water management plays a central role, with dams, aqueducts, and reservoirs shaping both terrain and soil fertility, while overreach risks provoking natural disasters or the anger of the gods.
As the population grows, citizens develop new needs ranging from basic goods to cultural luxuries, evolving into artisans, entertainers, and warriors who define the character of the city. Religious devotion remains a constant concern, requiring the construction of grand temples to secure blessings and avoid divine punishment. With its intricate simulations and emphasis on long-term planning, Nova Roma aims to deliver a deep and reactive city-building experience shaped by both player choice and nature itself.
