Fans of Hades and Diablo may want to keep Hell Clock firmly on their radar. It’s an action RPG with roguelike elements, developed by Brazilian indie studio Rogue Snail, and it already shows promise in both gameplay and polish.

Time As Your Greatest Enemy
In Hell Clock, you take on the role of Pajeú, a warrior determined to rescue the soul of his fallen mentor. After his people rebelled against the new Republic, they were met with violent retribution, leaving 25,000 dead. Now, as you descend deeper into the infernal realm, you’ll face twisted creatures, time-warping challenges, and the shadowy force that claimed your mentor’s life—and soul.
Each run is defined by one critical constraint: a 7-minute timer. You’re not just battling enemies—you’re fighting the clock. This mechanic injects constant urgency and tension, pushing you to act fast and smart. Time can be extended by defeating bosses or investing in upgrades after a run, giving players some breathing room. For those who prefer a less stressful experience, a relaxed mode removes the countdown entirely.

Progression That Hooks You
Like any good roguelike, Hell Clock excels at rewarding failure. Every run offers resources that can be spent to enhance your character through relics, new abilities, or gear upgrades. These enhancements persist across attempts, allowing for tangible growth and greater depth with each return.
During my first run, the opening boss handed me a swift defeat—but after a few upgrades, the same encounter became a breeze. It’s that “just one more run” loop that makes the game hard to put down.

Responsive, Fluid, and Visually Satisfying
The combat draws clear inspiration from Diablo—you’ll have a hotbar of skills to manage and deploy, with snappy cooldowns and impactful animations. It feels responsive, fluid, and visually satisfying, especially once you unlock a few abilities and start chaining them together.
That said, there are some trade-offs. Attacks require you to stand still, which can disrupt the flow during intense fights. In contrast to Hades, where movement and offense go hand-in-hand, Hell Clock leans more toward calculated positioning. The dash mechanic is also limited by a short cooldown, slightly slowing the pace in what is otherwise a fast and aggressive experience. Hopefully, future updates will refine this aspect for a smoother feel.
The visual style is striking, with clean, vibrant environments and a distinctive aesthetic that helps it stand out in a crowded genre. Technically, the game runs flawlessly—I encountered no bugs or performance issues on a high-end PC.
Enemy design is solid, especially when it comes to bosses. These encounters are the highlight of each run, offering visually memorable and mechanically satisfying battles. Regular enemies, however, suffer from a lack of variety. Seeing the same minions repeatedly before each boss can make runs feel a bit repetitive over time. More enemy diversity would go a long way in improving long-term replayability.

Preliminary Thoughts
Hell Clock is shaping up to be a compelling addition to the roguelike ARPG genre. Its time-based mechanic adds a fresh twist to the familiar formula, and the core combat and progression systems are already engaging. While there’s still room for improvement—especially in enemy variety and movement dynamics during combat—the foundation is strong, and the game’s potential is undeniable.
Whether you’re drawn to high-pressure, time-sensitive action or prefer a more deliberate, strategic progression loop, Hell Clock offers flexibility in how you play. It’s a promising title from Rogue Snail, and we’re excited to see how they expand on this fiery framework as development progresses.
If you’re a fan of roguelikes with punchy combat and rewarding progression, Hell Clock is worth keeping on your radar.
