Nintendo has officially announced Star Fox, a cinematic reimagining of the classic Star Fox 64, built specifically for the Switch 2. Slated for release on June 25, the title is more than a simple remaster, featuring a total visual overhaul, fully voiced dialogue, and an orchestral soundtrack. It will be available both digitally ($49.99) and physically ($59.99), with pre-orders live now on the eShop.

The game leverages the Switch 2’s hardware to deliver high-fidelity environments, from the oceans of Zoness to the nebulae of the Lylat System. Beyond the core campaign – which retains the branching paths and medal-hunting of the original – Nintendo is introducing a brand-new 4-vs-4 Battle Mode. This multiplayer suite allows up to eight players to face off as Team Star Fox or Team Star Wolf across various objective-based maps.
Innovative hardware integration is a major focus here. The game introduces Joy-Con 2 Mouse Controls for more intuitive aiming and a GameChat feature. The latter puts players directly into the cockpit with interactive AR filters and avatars that mirror real-world expressions during online play. Additionally, the GameShare feature allows for local co-op and gunner duties, with limited compatibility extending back to the original Nintendo Switch.
