Moonless Formless, the solo developer behind the upcoming horror ARPG Withering Realms, has shifted the game’s Early Access launch via Steam from May to September 2026.

This decision stems from an overwhelming response to the recent Steam Next Fest demo, which generated more player feedback in a single week than the developer’s previous title saw in six months. Those who provided detailed feedback during the demo or the developer’s previous project will be eligible for the upcoming closed beta waves, which will remain under a strict non-disclosure agreement to prevent story spoilers.
By pushing the release date, Moonless Formless intends to finish all primary development – including a revamped New Game + mode – before opening the game to a series of private community beta waves. This “battle-hardening” phase is designed to ensure the game is stable and refined before it hits a broader audience.
The game itself is a horror-focused action RPG set in a haunted 1926 alternate history. Players step into the role of Clover, a young girl who finds herself navigating the aftermath of a catastrophic occult event as a ghost. Accompanied by a strange doll guardian, players explore the town of Penwyll and its surrounding ruins, including the initial dungeon of Beynon House and the open fields of the Saintswood. The experience blends methodical combat with eerie worldbuilding as players uncover secrets and battle supernatural threats.
