Publisher CubeGame and developer UP Software have released a new official trailer for fantasy role-playing game Sword and Fairy 4: Remake, an Unreal Engine 5 reimagining of the classic Chinese RPG currently in development for PC, with console versions planned as well. A final release date has not yet been announced.

Also known internationally as Chinese Paladin, where it represents the fifth main installment, Sword and Fairy 4 is one of the most acclaimed entries in the long-running Sword and Fairy series. Rooted in Xianxia fantasy inspired by Chinese folklore, the role-playing game follows Yun Tianhe, Han Lingsha, Liu Mengli, and Murong Ziying as their intertwined journeys explore destiny, sacrifice, and the fragile balance between humans and demons. Within the wider franchise timeline, the story functions as a chronological prequel and is widely regarded as a landmark title in Chinese RPG history.
Sword and Fairy 4 first released as The Legend of Sword and Fairy 4 in 2007 for PC in Asian territories. A later PC release followed on June 18, 2021 via Steam, preserving the original experience for modern systems but without additional localization. The title’s continued popularity eventually led to a television adaptation in 2024, expanding its presence beyond games.
The newly announced Sword and Fairy 4: Remake is currently in development using Unreal Engine 5. While platform availability beyond PC and a release window have yet to be confirmed, the project aims to revisit the classic entry with modern technology, bringing its mythological world and character-driven narrative to a new generation while remaining faithful to its source material.
