Publisher ARTE France and developer Motvind Studios have announced Beyond the Plastic Wall, a pixel art 2.5D narrative adventure set for a 2026 release on PC via Steam.

In Beyond the Plastic Wall, you take on the role of Hal, a young scavenger whose life takes a turn when he discovers a sealed box containing handwritten letters from an unknown woman. This discovery sparks a journey across a decaying world to find the author, who resides deep within the last remaining city.
The gameplay centers on Hal’s skills as a mechanic. To progress through the environment, you must solve “tech-nostalgic” puzzles by repairing broken machinery, such as encrypted phone systems, malfunctioning archive computers, and rusted boat engines. These mechanical challenges are woven into the exploration of diverse landscapes, from windy plains and rocky shores to the neon-lit, crowded skyscrapers of the walled city.
Visually, the game utilizes a 2.5D perspective that blends hand-crafted pixel art with modern rendering effects to emphasize the beauty within the world’s decay. Along the way, Hal interacts with various outcasts – like a lonely ship captain and a hostile fishmonger – whose stories help piece together the mystery behind the letters and the history of the crumbling continent.
