Following the recent release date reveal at Sony’s State of Play, publisher Bandai Namco has deployed a comprehensive 10-minute gameplay walkthrough trailer for Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve.

While the initial showcase favored cinematic storytelling, this extensive follow-up broadcast focuses heavily on mechanical system overviews, detailing the core aerial dogfighting loops, aircraft modification options, and massive scale superweapon boss encounters that players will face in the skies.
Developed in Unreal Engine 5 alongside internal cloud rendering systems, the game marks the long-awaited return to the franchise’s fictional alternative Earth setting, Strangereal. The detailed walkthrough highlights tactical pre-flight preparation, requiring you to carefully assess mission objectives to choose between authentic licensed real-world jets and fictional, high-tech aircraft designs. Once selected, your chosen jet can be tailored with mission-specific upgrade parts and specialized secondary weaponry payloads to suit distinct combat styles.
The footage also sheds light on fresh tactical mechanics introduced in this generation, most notably a dynamic crash chain-reaction system. When battling the massive, heavily fortified superweapons dominating the airspace, wreckage from destroyed target pieces can collide with adjacent enemy structural elements as they plummet, adding an organic layer of destruction to chaotic aerial engagements. Digital pre-orders are currently live for the standard and Deluxe editions, with the latter granting early access starting September 29 ahead of the formal October 2, 2026 cross-platform launch on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve is scheduled for release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam.
