Life Below launches on May 26, 2026 on PC via Steam, developer Megapop has announced. A newly released trailer highlights the environmental challenges shaping the game’s underwater city-building structure.

Set beneath the ocean’s surface, Life Below reworks the genre through a focus on coral reef restoration and ecosystem balance. Developed in collaboration with marine biologists and written with input from Rhianna Pratchett, the project centers on rebuilding fragile habitats while encouraging biodiversity to return and stabilize the environment.
Its systems revolve around adapting to constant ecological pressure. Conditions shift through events such as coral bleaching, invasive species, jellyfish swarms, and pollution waves, each affecting how the reef develops over time. Growth is tied to careful planning, as expanding too quickly or without balance risks destabilizing the entire ecosystem rather than restoring it.
Megapop’s approach emphasizes interconnected systems over isolated mechanics, where each decision influences long-term sustainability beneath the waves. Ahead of release, the game will also appear during the Earth Appreciation festival on Steam, alongside a developer livestream on April 25 offering a closer look at gameplay and design direction.
