A major shift in direction is shaping the future of Among the Trolls. Developer AvantGarden has confirmed the game will bypass Early Access entirely, moving straight to a full 1.0 release for PC via Steam in Summer 2026.

This decision comes after community feedback suggested the game’s true strength isn’t in being a typical survival sandbox, but rather a more focused, atmospheric journey built around its story and world.
Set deep in the Finnish wilderness, the game follows Anna as she searches for her missing family in a landscape where folklore is just as real as the physical threats. While it still blends first-person exploration with survival systems—forcing you to manage hunger, fatigue, and exposure—these elements now serve the narrative. Instead of survival being the only goal, the game leans into the mystery of the forest, framing the woods as something reactive, unpredictable, and steeped in myth.
This pivot also means a change in scope. At launch, Among the Trolls will be a strictly single-player experience. By dropping multiplayer for now, the team can focus on pacing and cohesion. While they haven’t ruled out future expansions, the current priority is delivering a polished, meaningful story that reflects both their creative vision and the realities of game development today.
