DaRmaZat Classic JRPG returns with handcrafted visuals, expanded systems, and a free demo
Dragon Quest VII Reimagined is now available worldwide for Nintendo Switch & Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and the Microsoft Store (NL, BE, US), publisher Square Enix announced. Earlier this week, we published our review of the remake, which you can read here.
A modern remake of Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past, originally released in 2000, Dragon Quest VII Reimagined brings one of the most beloved entries in the long-running RPG series to a new generation with fully reworked visuals, refined gameplay systems, and expanded content. A new launch trailer has been released to celebrate the game’s arrival.
In Dragon Quest VII Reimagined, players follow a young hero and his childhood friends from their peaceful island home into a sprawling adventure across time. After uncovering mysterious stone fragments inscribed with ancient text, the group is drawn into the past, discovering that entire lands have been sealed away by dark forces. As more fragments are restored, new regions and eras open up, turning their search for answers into an epic quest that will decide the fate of the world.
The remake stays faithful to the original narrative while modernizing its presentation and pacing. Character designs by legendary artist Akira Toriyama have been reimagined in a charming, handcrafted 3D style inspired by physical puppets, while environments and dungeons are rebuilt as detailed, diorama-like spaces. Alongside the main story, players can engage in optional side quests, additional storylines, and new minigames that add further depth to the experience.
Combat has been significantly updated, retaining its turn-based foundation while introducing new mechanics. These include Moonlighting, which allows characters to combine two vocations at once, the tactical Let Loose ability for high-risk moments in battle, and the brand-new Monster Master vocation, enabling players to summon powerful monsters to overwhelm enemies.
A free demo of Dragon Quest VII Reimagined is also available on all platforms, with save data carrying over to the full game. Players who transfer their progress will receive an exclusive “Day Off Dress” cosmetic for Maribel.
Digital purchasers receive a platform-exclusive Slime Shield, while the Digital Deluxe Edition includes the “White Wolf” costume for Ruff and three downloadable content packs:
- The Road of Regal Wretches, featuring arena battles against iconic demon lords from the Erdrick Trilogy
- Luminary’s Livery, a costume set inspired by Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age
- Jam-Packed Swag Bag, containing useful in-game items
