Xbox Game Studios has officially unveiled Gears of War: Reloaded, a modernized edition of the original Gears of War, set to launch on August 26 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and the Microsoft Store. Developed in collaboration between The Coalition, Sumo Digital, and Disbelief, the enhanced title arrives with full cross-play and cross-progression support across all platforms. It will be priced at $39.99, and also comes to Game Pass on day one.

Celebrating nearly two decades since the franchise first debuted, Gears of War: Reloaded updates the genre-defining shooter for a new generation. The re-release features a suite of technical enhancements, including 4K resolution, up to 120 frames per second in multiplayer, and upgraded textures, lighting, and audio. Players can expect a seamless experience with zero loading screens during campaign play, support for Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos, and platform-specific optimizations depending on where they choose to play.
The updated version includes the full content lineup from the Gears of War: Ultimate Edition, bundling in all multiplayer maps, game modes, a bonus campaign act, and a broad selection of unlockable cosmetics and characters. Multiplayer supports up to eight players, while the campaign features two-player cooperative play.
In a first for the franchise, Reloaded is also coming to PlayStation 5, opening the door for a wider player base than ever before. And while a Microsoft account isn’t required for cross-play, players who sign in will gain access to full cross-platform progression and matchmaking, along with the ability to party up across systems. As a thank-you to longtime fans, players who previously purchased the digital version of Gears of War: Ultimate Edition will receive a free upgrade to Gears of War: Reloaded. Eligible users will be sent a redeemable code prior to launch.
Launching just ahead of the series’ 20th anniversary in 2026, Gears of War: Reloaded looks to honor the legacy of the franchise while introducing it to an entirely new audience—with sharper visuals, modern gameplay features, and broader platform availability than ever before.
