Developer Nine Dots Studio has officially announced that its upcoming flagship fantasy RPG, Outward 2, will no longer launch into Early Access on July 7, 2026, as previously scheduled. The development team has opted to shift the release window entirely, now targeting a broader 2027 launch timeframe across PC storefronts. Specific launch dates within the new calendar year will be disclosed in future updates.

According to a formal address by Guillaume Boucher-Vidal, CEO and Creative Director of Nine Dots Studio, the decision to postpone the rollout stems directly from recent public playtest data and community feedback. Despite a recent trailer inviting players back to the realm of Aurai for a summer debut, evaluation of the current build indicated that releasing the game next month would fail to satisfy mechanical and stability expectations for a paid Early Access product. The studio leadership noted that extensive community comments specifically requested a longer development cycle to refine the core systems before the public launch.
The extension will be utilized to implement major architectural overhauls, balance mechanics, and enhance stability across the RPG experience to bridge the quality gap between the recent beta phases and the commercial release build. Boucher-Vidal issued an official apology to dedicated community members who had scheduled seasonal breaks around the initial July milestone, emphasizing that the studio intends to ensure the initial purchase build fully commands player trust.
At launch, Outward 2 will be accessible for Windows PC through Steam, GOG, and the Epic Games Store.
