The post-launch lifecycle for Assassin’s Creed Shadows reaches its conclusion as the title’s final major update goes live today, June 16, 2026. A free patch introduces an array of substantial additions, headlined by a new narrative mission, a high-difficulty end-game loop, and crossover rewards, alongside an extensive list of balancing adjustments and platform fixes.

The new story quest, titled Black Tides, serves as a late-game narrative expansion. The plot follows protagonists Naoe and Yasuke as they are hunted across Japan by two elite Templar operatives known as the Black Cross. Accessing this mission requires players to have completed the main storyline, alongside the previously released post-launch quests A Critical Encounter and A Puzzlement.
For high-level players, the update introduces Domains, a dedicated end-game activity unlocked at level 30. Created by an in-game assassin hacker named MOD, this feature challenges players to tackle five distinct gameplay simulations spread across ten escalating difficulty tiers. Higher challenge levels introduce aggressive gameplay modifiers designed to disrupt optimized loadouts, forcing players to adapt their gear strategy. Success in these trials rewards players with an exclusive in-game currency spent at a dedicated vendor to purchase Domain-exclusive gear sets, weapons, and specialized engravings that will not be featured in the standard digital storefront.
Furthermore, the update adds two new crossover Projects to the Animus HUB titled Riptides and Undercurrent. By completing environmental Anomalies, players can unlock themed outfits, weapons, and vanity items compatible with both Shadows and the upcoming Black Flag Resynced. Due to the inclusion of this crossover content, these specific projects will not be supported on the Nintendo Switch 2 version of the game. The patch also introduces Horizon, a new Animus Rift that requires completion of the prior two rifts to access.
Rounding out the final update is a massive suite of quality-of-life adjustments and mechanical rebalances. The UI menu layout has been revised to harmonize HUB access directly through the game’s memory page. Combat balance changes include cutting armor-destroying ability effectiveness in half against bosses, reducing damage from enemy-thrown poison kunai and explosive grenades, and reworking multiple adrenaline-generating perks to scale down to lower percentages. Platform-specific optimization also delivers handheld GPU performance enhancements tailored specifically for the Nintendo Switch 2.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows is available on Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PC via the Epic Games Store, Steam and the Ubisoft Store, Mac via App Store, and Luna.
