Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced that the upgraded PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) technology for PlayStation 5 Pro will begin rolling out March 17 alongside the latest system software update.
The improved upscaling technology aims to deliver higher image clarity, better stability, and reduced flickering, while maintaining stable performance across supported titles. Game updates introducing official support for the enhanced PSSR are launching at the same time as the system update.
Games with Official Upgraded PSSR Support
The rollout includes several major third-party titles:
- Dragon’s Dogma II
- Monster Hunter Wilds
- Dragon Age: The Veilguard
- Nioh 3
- Rise of the Ronin
- Silent Hill 2
- Silent Hill f
- Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II
- Control
- Alan Wake II
- Final Fantasy VII Rebirth
Additional titles will support the upgraded technology in the near future, including Assassin’s Creed Shadows, Crimson Desert (at launch), and Cyberpunk 2077.
Optional Support for Other Games
For titles that have not yet received official patches, PS5 Pro owners can still experiment with the new upscaler through the “Enhance PSSR Image Quality” toggle in system settings. This option enables the upgraded processing for games that already support PSSR, though visual results may vary depending on the title.
Studios Highlight Improved Visuals
Developers involved in the rollout say the new PSSR version improves fine detail reconstruction, motion clarity, and overall image stability.
For example, BioWare says the update allows Dragon Age: The Veilguard to deliver higher image quality while maintaining stable performance modes. Meanwhile, Koei Tecmo noted that environmental details such as vegetation appear sharper in Nioh 3, even during fast-paced action.
According to Remedy Entertainment, the updated technology improves temporal stability and motion clarity, benefiting titles such as Alan Wake II and Control with more stable and detailed image upscaling.
