Bandai Namco Entertainment Europe has announced the immediate release of a playable demo for Echoes of Aincrad, its upcoming action RPG set within the Sword Art Online universe. Launched as part of Steam Next Fest for PC, the demo is also simultaneously available for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles. To incentivize early play, the publisher confirmed that all save data accumulated during this demo period will seamlessly transfer to the retail version upon the game’s official launch on July 10, 2026.

The demo features the beta phase of the main campaign, granting access to five full story missions. It allows players to test all available weapon classes within the stylized, floating castle architecture of Aincrad. Marking a historical shift for the Sword Art Online gaming franchise, Echoes of Aincrad replaces a pre-set protagonist with a fully customized original character. Players can utilize an extensive avatar creation suite to dictate the physical appearance and baseline attributes of their hero before diving into the narrative.
In terms of gameplay, the title focuses on fast-paced, real-time tactical combat alongside deep progression systems. Character building centers on modular stat upgrades, equipment modifications, and expansive skill trees designed to complement distinct combat styles. While navigating the game’s varied environments – ranging from open plains to multi-layered dungeon instances – players can recruit and command a roster of classic companion characters, utilizing their unique field abilities to counter high-level monsters and boss encounters.
Pre-orders are currently live across Steam, the PlayStation Store, and the Xbox Marketplace.
