Pokémon Champions, a free-to-start turn-based battle game, is set to release on April 8 for Nintendo Switch. A version for iOS and Android is scheduled to follow later in 2026, while Switch 2 users will receive a free update with enhanced visual clarity.

The experience centers on assembling a team of Pokemon and competing in online battles that lean on mechanics familiar from earlier entries in the franchise. Elements such as type advantages, Abilities, and move selection return, shaping strategic encounters where each decision can shift momentum. Battles are available in both single and double formats, encouraging varied approaches depending on team composition and tactics.
Beyond the core battling system, the game introduces multiple ways to recruit and manage Pokemon. Connectivity with the Pokemon HOME app allows certain transferred creatures from past titles, as well as those from Pokemon GO, to join the roster. Alternatively, a rotating daily recruitment system offers temporary additions, while Victory Points earned through play can be used to unlock permanent team members or enhance their capabilities.
Online functionality plays a central role, offering ranked matches for competitive progression alongside more relaxed casual encounters. Private matches allow direct challenges through room IDs, and seasonal competitions introduce shifting rulesets to keep engagements dynamic. Victory Points also extend beyond recruitment, enabling customization of moves, stats, and aesthetics, including trainer outfits and battle presentation elements.
Optional purchases are available as well, including a Starter Pack bundle that expands storage capacity and adds extra content such as music and in-game tickets. Additional monetization comes in the form of a Premium Battle Pass and membership options, providing further progression incentives within the game’s evolving ecosystem.
