Sony Interactive Entertainment and Housemarque have released a new gameplay overview trailer for fast-paced cinematic action game Saros, offering a closer look at its Eclipse Escalation systems, customization mechanics, and world progression ahead of its April 30 launch on PlayStation 5.

The trailer dives deeper into The Passage, a Carcosan temple that acts as the central hub of the experience. Here, players interact with fellow Echelon IV crew members, uncover additional world-building elements, and invest resources gathered during eclipse cycles to strengthen protagonist Arjun. Using Lucenite and Halycon collected across runs on Carcosa, players can upgrade their capabilities through a persistent progression structure designed around returning stronger after each attempt.
Customization plays a major role through the Armor Matrix system, managed by the Soltari AI known as Primary. This system allows players to tailor their Enforcer Armor to specific playstyles, whether by increasing armor integrity, improving resource gain, extending shield duration, or unlocking systems such as Second Chance. Weapons discovered during runs, including Soltari and Carcosan variants, remain in the player’s possession after death, reinforcing the game’s evolving loop structure.
Fast travel is handled via World Dial Teleportation, enabling players to revisit previously unlocked biomes directly instead of replaying entire sequences. Meanwhile, Carcosan Modifiers allow further control over difficulty. Protection Modifiers make the experience more forgiving by reducing incoming damage or easing combat mechanics, while Trial Modifiers heighten the challenge through more aggressive enemies, degrading weapon power, or disabling key safety systems. Players must balance both types to maintain equilibrium in overall difficulty.
Central to the trailer is Eclipse Escalation, a mechanic that progressively corrupts Carcosa’s environments, enemies, and audio landscape with each attempt. Biomes transform under eclipse conditions, as seen in the Blighted Marsh where water ignites and hostile projectiles inflict lasting armor penalties unless cleansed. Even the soundtrack, composed by Sam Slater, distorts under eclipse influence, reinforcing the oppressive atmosphere Housemarque is building toward the game’s launch.
