Publisher THQ Nordic and developer Alkimia Interactive have announced that Gothic Remake will launch for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC via Steam and GOG on June 5.

Originally released in 2001, Gothic returns as a full remake rebuilt using current-generation technology. The new version recreates the original’s open-ended structure while modernizing combat, systems, and presentation.
Taking on the role of the Nameless Hero, an unknown prisoner whose arrival disrupts the fragile balance of power among the Colony’s three factions, players return to the Valley of the Mines, a prison colony sealed beneath a magical barrier that spiraled out of control. After King Rhobar II ordered prisoners to mine magical ore to combat an orc invasion, a failed spell trapped everyone inside the Colony. With no escape, inmates formed rival factions and seized control, turning the mines into a lawless territory.
The remake preserves the original’s focus on unrestricted exploration and meaningful progression, while introducing expanded questlines, additional NPC routines and reactions, new traversal abilities, and a fully modernized combat system. NPCs and wildlife follow daily routines independent of the player, reinforcing the game’s systemic and immersive design. Players can align with one of three factions, influencing character development, abilities, and story outcomes.
Gothic Remake promises over 50 hours of gameplay set in a dark, dynamic world filled with dangerous wildlife, ancient magic, and branching narrative paths.
