Starfield Launches on PlayStation 5 April 7 Alongside Terran Armada DLC and Free Lanes Update

Sci-fi RPG Starfield will launch on April 7 for PlayStation 5, joining its existing release on Xbox Series X|S and PC via Steam. The PlayStation 5 debut coincides with the arrival of two major content updates, the Terran Armada story DLC and the free Free Lanes update, both launching the same day across all platforms.

Since its original release in 2023, Starfield has continued to expand with new content, gameplay systems, fan-requested features, story additions, quality-of-life improvements, and more than 1,000 community Creations. According to Bethesda Game Studios, the April 7 update represents the most substantial update the game has received since launch, offering the most complete version of the Settled Systems so far.

The PlayStation 5 version makes use of the console’s hardware features, including the DualSense lightbar, adaptive triggers, and touchpad integration. Players using PlayStation 5 Pro will also have access to two visual modes: Pro Performance Mode, which prioritizes higher frame rates, and Pro Visual Mode, which focuses on enhanced visual fidelity.

The Terran Armada DLC introduces a new storyline set within the Settled Systems, bringing additional characters, locations, enemies, missions, gameplay systems, and rewards. The expansion centers on a robotic invasion led by the Terran Armada, with players tasked with confronting the threat and shaping humanity’s future among the stars.

Launching alongside the expansion is the Free Lanes update, a free update designed to enhance the core gameplay experience for both new and returning players. Its most notable feature introduces intra-system travel, allowing players to cruise between planets within a star system using a new cruise mode. During these journeys, players may encounter dynamic activities and events while spending time with their ship’s crew during the voyage.

The update also expands the world with additional encounters, points of interest, and dungeon-style locations to increase exploration variety. New systems such as X-Tech allow further upgrades to weapons and ship modules, while new enemy modifiers introduce tougher combat encounters with altered abilities and behaviors. Players will also gain access to a new Moon Jumper land vehicle, expanded outpost functionality including shared storage, new recruitable crew members like Muria and a mini-bot, and a Starborn upgrade that allows certain items to carry over through the Unity into New Game Plus runs.

The Free Lanes update will be available free for all players, while owners of the Premium Edition on Xbox and Steam will receive the Terran Armada DLC at no additional cost.
