Total War: Warhammer 40,000, a new large-scale strategy entry from Creative Assembly and Sega, has been announced for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC via Steam. A release date has not yet been provided. The title brings the Total War formula into the grimdark far future of the 41st Millennium, combining turn-based empire management with large real-time battles drawn directly from Games Workshop’s iconic universe.

The game is set during the Era Indomitus, where the galaxy burns under endless conflict. Players will assume command of multiple major factions and shape their rise across a war-scarred star map, capturing worlds, expanding fleets, and managing a war economy that spans entire planetary systems. Each faction arrives with its own thematic identity, lore-rooted combat approach, and range of war machines inspired by their tabletop counterparts.
Four factions are confirmed at launch: the elite Space Marines, the brutal Orks, the ancient and dwindling Aeldari, and the vast Astra Militarum. Each offers a distinct strategic profile, from precision and discipline to overwhelming mob aggression or psychic hit-and-run warfare. Real-time battles unfold across varied biomes and destructible environments, with units ranging from infantry squads to towering mechanical walkers.
Players will also be able to customize their forces with sub-factions, color schemes, iconography, and personalized army traits, echoing the creative freedom of miniature collection. Campaign decisions will shape the control of planets, orbital bombardments, and large-scale deployments, while extreme options such as planet-killing weaponry introduce dramatic, late-game consequences.
