The psychological horror game Cthulhu: The Cosmic Abyss launches on April 16, 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. Ahead of release, NACON and developer Big Bad Wolf have unveiled a new gameplay trailer centered entirely on the game’s core investigation mechanics, while a public demo will be available on PC during Steam Next Fest starting February 23.

Set within a haunting Lovecraft-inspired universe, Cthulhu: The Cosmic Abyss places players in the role of Noah, an agent of the occult-focused organization Ancile, as he investigates the mysterious disappearance of miners in the Pacific Ocean. His search leads him to Ocean I, an abandoned underwater mining station marked by violence and madness. Claw marks scar the walls, blood-painted runes hint at dark rituals, and grotesque remnants of a brutal struggle litter the corridors, pushing Noah’s sanity to its limits.
Central to the experience is KEY, Noah’s AI companion, which is permanently linked to Ancile’s database. Through advanced clue analysis, KEY compares field discoveries with archived case files, identifies material compositions, and unlocks new sonar frequencies that help detect related elements in the environment. The sonar itself functions as both a navigation tool in dimly lit areas and a means of tracking evidence by tuning into specific frequencies, such as following blood traces to reconstruct past events. Players can also closely inspect and manipulate objects from multiple angles to uncover hidden details essential to progressing the investigation.
Each chapter presents difficult choices that directly affect Noah’s mental stability and ultimately shape the outcome of the story. Players must weigh faster, riskier paths that accelerate descent into madness against more methodical approaches requiring deeper analysis. Every revelation comes at a cost, reinforcing the psychological tension that defines the journey into the submerged city of R’lyeh, where the imprisoned Cthulhu’s influence seeps into reality.
