The System Shock remake will launch on December 18 for Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch, developer Nightdive Studios announced. The game originally debuted for PC via Steam, Epic Games Store, and GOG in May 2023, followed by releases on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One in May 2024. Nightdive Studios highlighted the technical ambition behind bringing System Shock to Nintendo’s hardware, describing the project as an “impossible port” in the tradition of other demanding titles adapted to Switch.

The remake delivers a modernized take on the 1994 science-fiction action shooter and immersive sim, combining redesigned visuals, updated controls, an improved interface, and overhauled audio. Players once again face SHODAN, the iconic rogue AI who haunts the corridors of Citadel Station, and will navigate a network of hostile creatures, environmental hazards, and interconnected areas as they fight to escape. The experience blends stealth, exploration, problem-solving, and futuristic weaponry in a faithful but reimagined form.
Nightdive collaborated closely with members of the original System Shock development team, including Terri Brosius, the original voice of SHODAN, to retain the spirit and atmosphere of the classic release. The Nintendo versions introduce platform-specific enhancements such as gyro aiming, community-requested improvements, and Joy-Con 2 mouse support. On Switch 2, the remake targets up to 1440p at 60 frames per second when docked and 1080p at 60 frames per second in handheld mode, while also supporting the full experience on the first-generation Switch.
