Publisher Dear Villagers and developer True Colors have announced that atmospheric 3D action adventure CALX—formerly known as XTAL—will launch for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and Nintendo Switch alongside its previously confirmed PC (Steam) version. A playable demo is available now on PC via Steam.

The demo offers roughly one hour of gameplay, covering the opening tutorial and introducing all core mechanics. Players can also explore part of the Canyon, the first major zone on the alien planet Syro.
Set in a vast science-fiction world inspired by visionary sci-fi art, CALX places players alone on the mysterious planet Syro, surrounded by towering crystal formations and remnants of ancient technology. The narrative unfolds through environmental storytelling, as players investigate what happened to the Quoths civilization and the impact of a cataclysmic event known as the WARP.
Movement is central to both exploration and combat. Players gradually unlock traversal abilities including double jump, air dash, levitation, and a grappling hook, allowing them to access previously unreachable areas in an interconnected world. Revisiting earlier regions with new skills reveals hidden paths, secrets, and additional upgrades.
Combat balances contemplative pacing with intense encounters. The protagonist is accompanied by AFX, a companion that grows stronger over time. Battles blend melee strikes with ranged attacks, while precise dodge timing grants tactical advantages. Encounters are designed around mobility as much as offense, effectively turning combat arenas into movement-based challenges.
Players can discover new weapons and ancient technological upgrades that enhance both traversal and fighting capabilities, encouraging experimentation with different playstyles. Each zone features a distinct atmosphere, shifting between quiet exploration and high-energy confrontations. The full experience is estimated to run between 10 and 15 hours, evoking the structure of classic action adventure titles.
