Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition Announced and Available Now

Nintendo and Monolith Soft have announced Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, which is available now digitally via the Nintendo eShop. Players who already own the Nintendo Switch version can upgrade through a paid “Upgrade Pack”. A physical edition will launch at select retailers on April 16.

The Nintendo Switch 2 Edition enhances the sci-fi RPG with upgraded technical performance. In TV mode, the game supports up to 4K resolution at up to 60 frames per second, while handheld mode delivers up to 1080p at up to 60 frames per second.

Set in the year 2054, the story follows humanity after Earth’s destruction. A colony ship carrying survivors—along with the player’s customizable protagonist—crash-lands on the alien planet Mira. Players must explore a vast and hostile open world, battle diverse alien lifeforms, and secure humanity’s survival.

Combat blends real-time action with special attacks and skills, allowing players to build flexible combat strategies. As they progress, players can earn the right to pilot Skells—powerful mechanized units capable of flight, vehicular transformation, and high-impact combat—after proving themselves to the BLADE organization.

Online functionality allows players to form squads of up to four members to complete cooperative objectives, such as gathering resources or defeating specific enemies. Special online missions offer opportunities to confront powerful foes for rewards. Additionally, players can recruit other users’ avatars into their single-player campaign.
