During today’s gaming showcases, publisher Activision and developer Toys for Bob officially announced Spyro: A Realm Beyond (also referred to as Spyro the Dragon 4). Marking the purple dragon’s first completely original mainline adventure in nearly twenty years, the upcoming 3D platformer is scheduled to release in spring 2027. The title will receive a multiplatform launch on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC via both Steam and the Microsoft Store.

Spyro: A Realm Beyond functions as a structural evolution of the classic franchise formula, introducing a fully realized mechanics overhaul centered around open exploration. Unlike the rigid gliding systems or isolated, time-attack flight levels of previous iterations, the sequel implements true, unrestricted dragon flight. Players will be able to freely navigate massive vertical landscapes, chaining together tight turns, steep climbs, and momentum-based dives across a completely new world. Renowned voice actor Tom Kenny is confirmed to return as the voice of Spyro, anchoring the narrative tone for both veteran fans and newcomers.
The narrative strands Spyro in a strange, wondrous alien realm far from home. His quest to find a way back is quickly derailed by the arrival of the Scavs, a vicious invading military force threatening to destroy the native ecosystem. To save the realm from being permanently altered, Spyro must coordinate with local factions, build a network of new allies, and utilize his aerial agility to dismantle the occupying army.
