Developer VCD Studios has announced that The InBetween, a 2D hand-drawn Metroidvania that balances combat skill with the weight of conscience, is coming to PC via Steam.

In the story, the world of Aija serves as the backdrop – a surreal and atmospheric underground realm currently consumed by a mysterious infection known as the Vir. Pipit, a young boy navigating this distorted world, must uncover the source of the rot while deciding the fate of the beings he encounters. As he gains new abilities and masters his blaster, the narrative reveals truths hidden deep beneath the surface and beyond the edges of the story.
What sets this experience apart is a deep moral choice system centered on the decision to either eliminate or attempt to heal the infected. This dual approach carries over into combat, blending fast-paced gunplay with Undertale-inspired turn-based battles for more personal encounters. Every action is tracked by a judgment system, ensuring that Pipit’s path – whether heroic, villainous, or somewhere in between – leads to vastly different consequences and multiple endings.
With development now accelerating, The InBetween is available to wishlist on Steam and dive into a free playable demo to experience the game’s unique mechanics firsthand.
