Asobo Studio has released a new developer diary for Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy, offering an intimate look at the creative journey behind the game’s protagonist, Sophia.

Set 15 years before the events of Requiem, this standalone adventure puts players in control of a younger, more “feral” version of the smuggler long before she became the seasoned ally fans remember. The blog post explores how the team reimagined her design—swapping her familiar exuberant style for tattered leathers and a more somber aesthetic—to reflect her life as a 22-year-old plunderer surviving a violent environment.
The studio confirms that Resonance will lean into a more action-oriented experience while remaining anchored in the series’ signature emotional depth. Players will navigate a Mediterranean setting inspired by Minoan myth, where Sophia must confront her own history with the Macula—a dark force that apparently haunted her long before she met Amicia and Hugo. Creative lead David Dedeine also noted that the team is deliberately taking risks with this “action-driven” shift, focusing on reactive combat and ancient machinery puzzles to deliver a fresh perspective on the franchise.
Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy is scheduled to launch this year for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and Microsoft Store.
