Unknown Worlds Entertainment has released a new developer vlog for their upcoming underwater survival game Subnautica 2, offering a closer look at the game’s redesigned base-building system.

The sixth dev vlog focuses on how the team is evolving one of the series’ core mechanics. Several developers appear in the video, including Base Design Lead Kiel McDonald, Senior Engineer Carolyn Lu, Senior Gameplay Engineer Milan Singh, and Lead Hard Surface Artist Ben Henry, who walk through the changes being made to underwater base construction.
A major improvement highlighted in the vlog is a procedural design approach for creating bases. This system is intended to streamline the building process while allowing for more varied and flexible structures as players expand their underwater habitats. The developers also discuss how engineering, gameplay systems, and art design work together to shape the modular base pieces and ensure they function smoothly within the ocean environment.
Subnautica 2 can now be wishlisted on Steam, Xbox Store, and the Epic Games Store, with additional development updates planned as the team moves closer to its Early Access launch.
