DaRmaZat Legendary first-person shooter studio id Software is celebrating its 35th anniversary in 2026, marking more than three decades of innovation that helped define and evolve the FPS genre, Bethesda has announced.

Founded on February 1, 1991, in Mesquite, Texas, id Software has played a foundational role in shaping modern video games. The studio’s legacy spans from genre-establishing releases like Wolfenstein 3D and DOOM to Quake, RAGE, and most recently DOOM: The Dark Ages, which launched in 2025. Across its history, the studio has earned hundreds of industry awards for its technical breakthroughs, fast-paced combat design, and iconic worlds.
The anniversary celebrations kicked off earlier this week with a tribute across Bethesda and DOOM social channels and continue today, February 4, with a special live anniversary stream airing at 3pm PT/6pm ET/ February 5, 00:00 AM CET. The broadcast features key id Software figures Marty Stratton and Hugo Martin and will include the first details about this year’s QuakeCon, which itself celebrates its 30th anniversary in 2026.

As part of the festivities, a selection of games from the id Software catalog has gone on sale across Steam and PlayStation platforms, with discounts reaching up to 66.6 percent, including DOOM: The Dark Ages. Titles from the Wolfenstein, DOOM, Quake, and RAGE franchises also remain available through Xbox Game Pass, allowing players to revisit or discover the studio’s extensive back catalog.
In addition, Evercade has teased an upcoming collection of classic DOOM releases, keeping the studio’s retro legacy alive for longtime fans.
