Side-scrolling shoot ’em up R-Type Dimensions III is set to launch in May 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC via Steam. Publisher ININ Games has now released a new trailer highlighting significant visual and technical progress as development enters its final phase, while also confirming that the Nintendo Switch 2 version will ship as a complete physical release on cartridge.

The latest footage offers the most detailed look yet at the game’s modern presentation, with improved lighting, visual effects, and smoother animations layered on top of the series’ precision-focused gameplay. True to the franchise’s legacy, players will be able to switch seamlessly between a classic visual style and the newly rebuilt presentation at any moment during play, blending nostalgia with contemporary polish.
Designed as a modern evolution of the long-running series, R-Type Dimensions III combines traditional 2D shoot ’em up design with updated technology and quality-of-life improvements. Alongside its refined visuals, the game supports local co-op play and offers expanded settings options, allowing players to tailor controls and camera behavior while tackling its demanding enemy patterns.
ININ Games also confirmed that the Nintendo Switch 2 edition will be released fully on cartridge, with no additional downloads required, a detail aimed squarely at collectors and preservation-focused players. Pre-orders are currently available for the Standard and Special Editions, while the limited Collector’s Edition remains open until February 8, after which production quantities will be finalized.
