Pixel art action-adventure Ratcheteer DX will launch on March 5 for Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam, with a Mac version also available through the Mac App Store. Ahead of release, developer Shaun Inman and publisher Panic have released a free public demo on Steam, allowing players to sample the opening hours of the game, with progress carrying over to the full version.

Originally released as part of Playdate Season One in 2022, Ratcheteer DX is an expanded and enhanced edition that reimagines the underground adventure in full color. Set in a world where humanity has been forced to retreat below the surface due to an endless Impact Winter, the game follows a young apprentice mechanic who sets out on what begins as a simple errand and quickly escalates into a far-reaching journey across caverns, facilities, and frozen expanses.
The demo introduces players to the game’s exploration-driven structure, where progression is tied to mastering a small set of versatile tools. As new abilities are unlocked, previously inaccessible paths open up, encouraging careful navigation through interconnected regions and dungeons. Combat and traversal are deliberately lightweight, focusing on discovery, environmental puzzles, and boss encounters rather than complex systems.
This updated edition adds a range of visual options, including multiple display filters inspired by the original Playdate version, alongside a CD-quality stereo soundtrack and support for ten languages. A newly released trailer accompanies the demo, offering a closer look at the game’s colorful presentation and nostalgic tone ahead of its March release.
