Nintendo and Retro Studios have announced that Metroid Prime 4: Beyond will release worldwide on December 4 for both Switch 2 and Switch. The Switch version will be priced at $59.99/€59.99, while the Switch 2 version will retail for $69.99/€69.99. Players who begin on the original Switch will also be able to upgrade to the enhanced Switch 2 edition via a $9.99/€9.99 pack.

The new entry follows Samus Aran after an accident strands her on the mysterious planet Viewros, an ancient world filled with lush jungles, alien ruins, and hostile lifeforms. Players will need to scan environments for clues, master Samus’s iconic equipment and weapons, and wield newly acquired psychic powers to uncover the secrets of the planet and find a way home. Her technologically advanced bike, the Vi-O-La, also serves as a key tool in traversal and exploration, adding speed and mobility to her mission.
Throughout her journey, Samus encounters alien remnants known as the Lamorn, who present her with a solemn request, as well as dangerous foes including the returning bounty hunter Sylux, a sharpshooter with a personal vendetta against both the Galactic Federation and Samus herself. The story weaves together new mysteries with familiar rivalries, setting the stage for one of the most ambitious Metroid experiences yet.
On Switch 2, the game takes advantage of upgraded hardware with optional display modes. Players can prioritize visual fidelity with a 4K resolution, 60 frames per second presentation in Quality Mode, or aim for smoother performance with up to 120 frames per second in Performance Mode. HDR support brings the vibrant colors of Viewros to life, whether played docked or in handheld. Enhanced aiming is also supported through the Joy-Con 2 controllers, which offer mouse-like precision alongside traditional button inputs.
Metroid Prime 4: Beyond marks the long-awaited continuation of the series, blending atmospheric exploration, combat, and story-driven sci-fi adventure with new mechanics designed to expand the scope of Samus’s journey.
