Showa American Story, developed by NEKCOM Games and co-published by 2P Games and 4Divinity, showcases a fresh look at its alternate-history setting through a new Gamescom 2026 trailer and media drop ahead of its upcoming release on PlayStation 5 and PC via Steam.

Inspired by the experiences of its development team growing up in China during the 1980s reform era, Showa American Story presents an alternate world where a dominant Japan culturally colonized North America before a apocalyptic outbreak plunged the continent into chaos.
The narrative follows resurrected protagonist Chigusa Choko as she travels across a modified American landscape filled with zombies, monsters, and eccentric human survivors to uncover the truth behind her revival. Exploration takes you through a Japanified version of America featuring reimagined cities such as Neo Yokohama (formerly Los Angeles), San Francisco, Las Vegas, and Neo Tokyo #4 (formerly Austin). Dialogue choices and survivor interactions shape your journey, allowing select companions to join the road trip.
Real-time combat in Showa American Story combines melee weapons, ranged firearms, and strange contraptions like samurai swords, drill-arms, and flagpoles to dispatch hordes of enemies through dodges, counters, and executions. Character progression mixes stat enhancements with era-nostalgic daily activities and mini-games, including fully playable arcade cabinets, dumbbell training, and hopscotch.
