During the Xbox Games Showcase, 4A Games debuted the first official gameplay trailer for Metro 2039, confirming a February 2027 launch window. The upcoming narrative-driven first-person shooter is scheduled to release on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Steam, and the Epic Games Store.

The three-minute “Hunter” trailer, captured entirely in-game, showcases a high level of graphical fidelity alongside the return of the series’ signature claustrophobic stealth-action gameplay, diegetic survival mechanics, and dual tunnel and surface exploration. The footage introduces new tactical equipment to your arsenal, including a silent stealth weapon known as “The Shatun” and a fresh breaching charge mechanic designed for breaking through fortified defenses.
The narrative focuses on a new political conflict brewing deep within the subterranean tunnels. The Metro has been seized by a powerful, propaganda-heavy regime led by Hunter, a fanatical former Spartan Ranger who has assumed the role of the Fuhrer. You step into the role of a vengeful protagonist known as “The Stranger”, who aims to dismantle Hunter’s dictatorship. While Hunter was once revered as a selfless protector within the now-ruined Spartan Order, the Stranger views him as a hypocritical tyrant who has become the exact enemy the Spartans originally swore to fight.
Despite the disruption caused by Russia’s ongoing full-scale invasion of Ukraine, 4A Games continues actively developing the title across its studios in Malta and Kyiv. The studio continues to support its Ukrainian homeland and staff members, directing players who wish to contribute toward United24, the country’s official fundraising platform.
METRO 2039 is set to release in February 2027 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and Epic Games Store.
