Final Fantasy VII Revelation Announced: Remake Trilogy Finale Hits All Platforms in Spring 2027

Square Enix has officially unveiled Final Fantasy VII Revelation, the highly anticipated third and final entry in the Final Fantasy VII remake trilogy. Moving away from previous PlayStation console exclusivity, the grand finale is set to launch simultaneously on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC via Steam, the Epic Games Store, and the Microsoft Store. The game is scheduled for release in Spring 2027, perfectly aligning with the landmark 30th anniversary of the original 1997 masterpiece.

Picking up immediately amid the global chaos of a looming Meteor and the planet awakening its monstrous planetary guardians, the Weapons, Revelation follows Cloud Strife and his fully assembled party as they hunt down Sephiroth to decide the fate of the planet. A massive structural upgrade comes in the form of the iconic airship, the Highwind. Serving as the primary anchor for a seamlessly connected open world, the Highwind allows players to freely fly across the globe and drop in via parachute anywhere, offering a seamless loading transition directly from the air to the land. This massive playground includes completely new, unvisited areas such as the humid, tropical rainforests of the Mideel Region and the beautifully designed, vermilion-painted architecture of the Wutai Region.

Final Fantasy VII Revelation‘s combat receives its most polished iteration yet, completely unifying the ensemble cast by introducing Vincent Valentine (voiced by Matt Mercer) and Cid Highwind (voiced by J. Michael Tatum) as fully playable party members. Vincent shifts between rapid gunslinger playstyles and ferocious, bestial transformations, while Cid uses his dragoon lance for sweeping area-of-effect attacks and high-mobility strikes.

Additionally, Square Enix is introducing Fits, a brand-new outfit-based combat mechanic. By equipping different outfits, players can drastically shift a character’s core moveset and playstyle to emulate classic Final Fantasy jobs, such as the aggressive, frontline-focused Warrior or the spell-heavy Black Mage.
