Publisher Xbox Game Studios and developer Undead Labs have announced that State of Decay 3 will enter a new phase of development with alpha tests starting in May, with players able to register now via the official website for a chance to participate.

The upcoming tests will offer a first hands-on look at the survival sequel’s evolving systems, including four-player cooperative gameplay, expanded base building, deeper resource management strategies, and a stronger emphasis on combat. According to Undead Labs, the alpha will focus on core gameplay loops such as scavenging and survival in a dynamic zombie-infested world, with additional testing opportunities planned throughout the year.
State of Decay 3, first announced in 2020, remains in development for Xbox Series and PC via Steam and the Microsoft Store, with a full release date yet to be announced.
