Dark Scrolls, a retro-inspired dungeon scroller from Doinksoft, the studio behind Gato Roboto, Gunbrella, and Demon Throttle, has been announced for PC (Steam) and Nintendo Switch. The game blends chaotic shoot ’em up-style action with roguelike progression, offering both solo and cooperative play when it launches later this year.

In Dark Scrolls, players can choose from a cast of nine quirky heroes—ranging from a burly berserker to a saxophone-playing rat—each with unique abilities, side objectives, and customizable trinkets. Combat emphasizes fast reflexes and quick decision-making as players hack, slash, and dodge through procedurally generated runs made up of hand-crafted rooms filled with traps, branching paths, and intense boss encounters.
Between runs, players can spend collected coins at Bruce & Goose’s Shoppe to unlock new perks, powerful attacks, and summoned allies, enabling increasingly chaotic, screen-filling combinations. The game supports both local and online co-op, allowing players to strategize together and revive each other mid-run.
Visually, Dark Scrolls embraces a classic pixel-art style with retro-inspired sound effects and music, while modern controls and design sensibilities ensure a smooth gameplay experience. Each run introduces new surprises, encouraging experimentation and replayability as players uncover secrets and push deeper into the dungeon.
Dark Scrolls is due out for PC and Nintendo Switch later this year.
