Developer Oxide Games and publisher Stardock have shared a new developer video blog for Ashes of the Singularity II, outlining updates to army formations and unit production systems based on feedback from its recent Steam Next Fest demo.

One of the key changes focuses on how armies behave on the battlefield. Units are now automatically organized into structured formations, with heavily armored frontline troops absorbing damage while ranged units such as snipers and artillery remain positioned in the back. Players can also quickly adjust an army’s facing direction, allowing for more precise responses to incoming threats and enabling more deliberate tactical maneuvers during large-scale engagements.
On the management side, several usability improvements have been introduced. These include clearer tooltips, dedicated hotkeys for recruiting individual unit types, and expanded controls over production, such as pausing unit creation and refining build queues. Together, these changes aim to streamline decision-making while still supporting the game’s emphasis on large, coordinated battles.
Ashes of the Singularity II is a large-scale sci-fi RTS set in a near-future solar system where three factions—the United Earth Forces, the Post-Human Coalition, and the AI-driven Substrate—compete for control of Turinium, a powerful computational resource. The sequel builds on the original’s massive battle design with more cohesive army behavior and region-based base management, while still supporting hundreds of units clashing across expansive battlefields. The game is currently in development for PC via Steam, with no release date announced yet.
