Publisher Koei Tecmo and developer Team NINJA have released a new 17-minute gameplay showcase for the dark samurai action RPG Nioh 3, offering an extended look at its combat systems and open-field structure ahead of launch. The game is scheduled to release on February 6 for PlayStation 5 and PC via Steam, with a playable demo arriving on January 29 and save data carrying over to the full game.

The newly released gameplay video offers an extended look at Nioh 3’s evolution, highlighting its shift to an open-field structure for the first time in the series. This new approach allows for freer exploration across a fractured kingdom filled with cursed villages, powerful yokai, and historical figures drawn from Japanese mythology, while retaining the high-stakes tension the franchise is known for. Central to this experience is The Crucible, a deadly gauntlet designed to test mastery of the game’s combat systems.
Combat in Nioh 3 revolves around two distinct styles that can be switched instantly. The Samurai style builds on familiar mechanics from previous entries, enhanced with new systems such as Arts Proficiency and Deflect to support aggressive, close-range encounters. In contrast, the Ninja style emphasizes speed, positioning, and evasion, relying on techniques like Mist and Evade to strike efficiently and withdraw before retaliation.
Online multiplayer returns with support for cooperative play through Summon Visitor, allowing assistance during difficult encounters, and Expeditions, which enables co-op exploration across open zones. These options are designed to complement the game’s demanding combat while offering flexibility for different playstyles.
