Craftlings Combines Lemmings-Inspired Design with City-Building Strategy on PC This Week

After a four-year solo development journey, Craftlings, a retro-inspired strategy puzzle game clearly drawing from ’90s classics like Lemmings, as well as city-building staples such as The Settlers and Factorio, will launch on January 15 for PC via Steam at a price of $14.99.

Developed by German solo developer Ariano GAMES, Craftlings tasks players with guiding and managing groups of small workers through handcrafted levels filled with logistical challenges. Rather than direct control, players assign roles, plan movement paths, and optimize automated production chains to help their Craftlings gather resources, construct buildings, and overcome environmental hazards.

Set across multiple biomes, the game blends nostalgic design with modern systems, asking players to grow settlements by carefully balancing efficiency and expansion. Craftlings can be reassigned on the fly to different professions such as lumberjacks, miners, masons, or warriors, allowing flexible responses to each level’s unique objectives. As villages evolve, new structures and upgrades unlock additional mechanics and strategic options.

While its foundations echo classic problem-solving games of the past, Craftlings adds modern pixel art visuals, a relaxed pace, and a soothing soundtrack to create a welcoming yet thoughtful experience. Each level encourages experimentation, whether by refining production layouts, pushing beyond settlement borders for rare resources, or preparing defenses against lurking dangers.
