DaRmaZat It was already confirmed that Nioh 3 is set to arrive on February 6, 2026 for PlayStation 5 and PC via Steam, but today’s update shifts the spotlight to a major new addition: the Bakumatsu period. This late-1800s Kyoto setting, warped by the Crucible’s influence, joins Edo, Sengoku, and Heian as the next era players will battle through.
Update December 12, 2025: Publisher Koei Tecmo and developer Team NINJA announced that a demo will be released on January 29, 2026.
The Bakumatsu era marks the final age of the samurai, and iconic locations such as Kiyomizu and Honnoji temples appear twisted by otherworldly corruption. Alongside newly introduced yokai threats, players will confront the Shinsengumi, a military unit serving the shogunate and now outfitted with firearms, gatling guns, and multi-directional ranged attacks—a first for the Nioh franchise.
Throughout the story, protagonist Takechiyo Tokugawa will meet key historical figures including Takasugi Shinsaku, Okita Soji, and Tokugawa Yoshinobu, the last shogun of the Edo shogunate. Each time period features its own cast, shaping Takechiyo’s connections across eras. Nioh 3 will also be featured at the British Museum’s Samurai exhibition in February 2026.
Pre-orders are available physically and digitally, including a Digital Deluxe Edition, Season Pass, and a SteelBook edition with two exclusive DLC items. An early purchase bonus will be available for a limited time after launch, and Steam system requirements have been detailed on the official website.
