Independent developer Ironward’s hybrid 4X RPG and RTS Atre: Dominance Wars is officially on its way after surpassing its Kickstarter goal. The campaign, backed by over 250 supporters who contributed more than $30,000 USD, will fund the development of the main story campaign. The game is slated to arrive in 2026 for PC via Steam.

Ironward revealed that the project’s first major milestone unlocks the development of the full narrative experience, which follows players as they step into the role of an Elder rising to power in a world fractured by dark magic. Players choose magical attributes, raise armies, and shape sprawling fantasy cities while pushing through four interconnected worlds built around exploration, expansion, and conquest. With the cataclysmic Merge threatening to collapse entire regions, the story challenges players to anchor their land to survive or uncover the mystery behind the disaster.
The game’s systems revolve around creating customizable armies, each led by immortal Avatars and strengthened through mutation, research paths, and forged artifacts. Players enhance their forces further by wielding their own spells during battle, allowing them to devastate foes at the cost of exposing themselves to stronger entities. These mechanics carry over into shifting worlds that evolve throughout the campaign, resulting in a dynamic mix of strategy, RPG progression, and high-stakes decision making.
Ironward is now targeting a $60,000 stretch goal to introduce improved combat depth. This enhancement would include a revamped battlefield overview, refined interface, targeted spellcasting options, and additional tactical decisions, broadening the strategic range of encounters. A playable version of Atre: Dominance Wars is already available through Steam playtest requests, offering an early look at its hybrid systems ahead of launch.
