ArenaNet and co-developer 2weeks have announced Guild Wars Reforged, an updated, modernized edition of the original Guild Wars, launching for PC on December 3. It will be available via Steam and as a direct download from ArenaNet for $19.99, with all updates included at no additional cost for existing players.

In a press release, game director Stephen Clarke-Willson said the team remains committed to enhancing the experience even two decades after the game’s debut, noting that the goal of the project is to give both longtime fans and newcomers a reason to continue adventuring through Tyria together. 2weeks co-founder Bandon Dillon added that returning to the franchise has been particularly meaningful for the studio, as many of its members contributed to the original Guild Wars prior to forming 2weeks in 2024.
The updated release brings together the full library of campaigns—Prophecies, Factions, and Nightfall—and introduces Steam Deck verification, as well as XInput controller support for the first time. The developers emphasized that the modernization effort extends beyond input options. Guild Wars Reforged adds high-DPI support for contemporary displays, HD skill icons, and various rendering upgrades such as new antialiasing modes, ambient occlusion, enhanced bloom, improved font scaling, expanded 3D environmental audio, and an integrated quest tracker designed for easier navigation on both monitors and TVs.
Guild Wars Reforged represents a co-development initiative between ArenaNet and 2weeks, whose team includes former ArenaNet staff returning to the franchise after more than a decade away. Together, they aim to refresh the classic MMO while preserving the defining structure, style, and tone that have kept the original experience active for nearly twenty years.
