Publisher Lyrical Games and developer One More Level, the studio behind the Ghostrunner series, have announced Valor Mortis. The game is described as a first-person Soulslike featuring brutal and methodical combat, Metroidvania-inspired exploration, and a story steeped in horror, corruption, and conspiracy. It is planned for release in 2026 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC via Steam.

“One More Level wanted to create something darker and more original with Valor Mortis, while still offering players the challenge the studio is known for,” said CEO Szymon Bryla. “After Ghostrunner we had the foundation for another first-person action title, but this time we’re stepping into the Soulslike genre. We’re making a game that is demanding and expansive, while also showing how much the studio has grown. Valor Mortis is our own fresh take on the genre.”
The game places players in the role of William, a soldier of Napoleon’s Grande Armée who is resurrected from a battlefield grave. The Europe he awakens to is unrecognizable, scarred by a mysterious plague that has also left him with its corrupting power flowing through his veins.
Combat is built around parries, dashes, and visceral finishers across multiple weapon types, with each death giving players a chance to grow stronger. The corruption can be harnessed to enhance attacks and unlock supernatural abilities. Players will explore an alternate 19th-century Europe where endless war has twisted both the land and its inhabitants, uncovering hidden paths and secrets while facing abominations of Napoleon’s Eternal Guard.
The narrative blends historical figures and supernatural elements into a grim conspiracy at the heart of William’s resurrection, drawing players deeper into a dark world of plague and betrayal.
