AtomTeam has launched the closed alpha test for ATOM RPG 2, codenamed Salvation, giving Kickstarter backers their first playable look at the post-apocalyptic role-playing sequel ahead of its scheduled PC release via Steam.
The current test phase introduces the initial Bunker Hill zone, a sandbox environment featuring cooperative PvE gameplay alongside traditional solo play. Players who jump into the test area can explore civilian and military ruins, engage in tactical combat across abandon military sites and ghoul-infested stands, test out various modes of transport such as skis, and interact with several non-playable characters through dialogue and quests.
The ambitious follow-up shifts the franchise away from traditional segmented maps into a massive 1,225 km² seamless open world set within the Caspian Wastes. Remaining true to its isometric RPG roots, the game incorporates dynamic base building, vehicle modifications, and vertical combat as players navigate the ruins of a post-nuclear civilization.
Following a public showcase at Gamescom in August, the project will transition into a closed beta under codename Exodus in September, followed by a Steam Early Access launch in December under codename Reclamation. A complete 1.0 release, codenamed Resurrection, is planned for 2027.
