Following the launch of its playable Steam demo, developer Fairplay Studios and publisher Red Dunes Games have released a brand-new developer diary for Nightmare Circus, focusing entirely on the title’s unique combat system. The surreal action-adventure game is currently on track for a Q2 2026 release across PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam.

The video details how players will utilize protagonist Peppin’s specialized arsenal to survive the grotesque dangers lurking within the Nightmare Realm. Combat in Nightmare Circus transforms performance into a weaponized art, revolving around the use of enchanted puppet strings to control the battlefield. Players can snare enemies, slam them into one another, and chain swift attacks together into destructive combos.
Position and movement are critical, as encounters are designed to feel like choreographed acts where every strike and collision builds a deadly show. This skill-based combat system relies on layered abilities and customizable playstyles, allowing players to approach environmental puzzles, shifting stages, and escalating boss fights in various ways across the game’s estimated eight to twelve hours of content.
A release date has yet to be announced.
